Job Description

We are currently partnered with a market leading FMCG business who are looking for a Category Controller to join their team on a 12 month FTC, to cover a maternity leave. This is a highly strategic role whereby the individual will be supporting the wider Top 4 grocery category team, advising across a portfolio of branded and own label products. Based in the Midlands there is the option of flexible home working.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • To deliver 3 year commercial strategy plans for all branded and PL propositions
  • Promotional plans of brand/PL, by channel - level, weeks on deal, execution, target reduction in promotional participation, target grown share of added value
  • Identification on new routes to market for brand/PL products
  • Identification of potential CINCs
  • Collaborative relationships with demand planning to ensure best use of product e.g. volume recommendation by customer for NPD
  • Communication to commercial team as part of account planning process
  • Lead monthly Promotional Review account surgeries, ensuring promotional reviews are completed and used to educate future promotional plans and to ensure maximisation of promotional effectiveness at a total business level
  • The role requires a unique balance of being able to have a strategic view as well a getting involved with hands on analysis
  • The process covers all functions, therefore requires strong leadership to influence stakeholders and ensure alignment across functions

 

 

Skills & experience:

 

  • Ideally a mixture of branded & own label FMCG experience - own label is a essential
  • Experience of working with Top 4 grocery retailers
  • The role requires a balance of category and market knowledge as well as sound commercial acumen
  • Good financial and analytical skills
  • Understanding of data including basic use of Nielsen, IRI and Kantar
  • Leadership & accountability
  • Self-starter, proactive agenda setting and solution based approach
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills with multiple styles
  • Effective influencer and good commercial understanding
