Head of Communications
The Head of Communications has overall responsibility for the orgnisation’s communications and the PR/comms team.
Their role is to have a strategic input, ensuring all delivery of PR activity has the necessary checks in place to protect the brand and are aligned with helping the company achieve its commercial objectives.
They will manage the overall communications budget outlining the annual communications plans and targets. If the organisation is working with an external agency the Head of Communications will be involved with the selection process and appointment of the agency ensuring they work in tandem with the organisation’s goals. The Head of Communications requires strong managerial and leadership skills, helping their team develop and grow. They will spot opportunities to promote the company’s products or services and increase brand value by making recommendations internally to stakeholders and the board.
Employers look for highly experienced PR professionals with either in-house experience or a mix of agency and in-house experience. Qualifications from the PRCA or CIPR are also highly desirable.
Salary wise outside of London the role generally pays between £55,000 to £85,000 depending on regional variance and level of experience.
