Press Officer

Press Officers act as the first point of call for the media. They handle all matters relating to the press and public relations for the company.

The role will involve press release writing and then selling those stories in to the right trade, regional and/or national press. The Press Officer will track media coverage relating to the company, keeping an eye on industry developments and organising press conferences. They will respond to the media during crisis PR events, or negative incidents and might occasionally be on call to deal with urgent media enquiries during evenings or weekends

Excellent writing skills and understanding of the media are essential skills to be considered for the role of Press Officer. This might have been gained in a previous in-house or agency role. Preferred qualifications are degrees in English, Media or PR. Further qualifications from the PRCA or CIPR are also desirable.

Salary wise outside of London the role generally pays between £21,000 to £34,000 depending on regional variance and level of experience.
