Cheltenham
Also known as Cheltenham Spa, it is located on the edge of the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Gloucestershire, England; with its existing motto of ‘Salubritas et Erudito’ meaning 'health and education', Cheltenham has been a health holiday destination since the discovery of its local mineral springs in 1716. In the rich man’s 18th century, Cheltenham rivalled Bath for the country’s best spa resort and today still maintains its stately air thanks to many Regency buildings and manicured town squares. It’s now best known for its racecourse, which can attract up to 40,000 people each March for England's annual premier steeplechase event, the Gold Cup. Cheltenham's excellent standard of accommodation and restaurants make it an incredibly attractive Midlands base. Proud of its numerous internationally renowned and historic schools, the county town also hosts several festivals of culture, featuring globally famous contributors and attendees, such as the Cheltenham Literature Festival, the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the Cheltenham Science Festival, the Cheltenham Music Festival and the Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival.
